Artists Statement

Alana Brand is a multidisciplinary artist based in Fife. She is currently studying MFA Fine Art at DJCAD. Her work explores the complicated relationships between humankind and the natural environment through a microscopic lens. By making large-scale artworks, she aims to explore these relationships on an intimate level. Inspired by the languages of both natural and artificial materials and process such as printmaking, ceramics and photography, she uses these materials and processes to navigate and convey the themes and messages of past and future worlds impacted by human activity in a raw and realistic sense.

Natural and artificial textures, microscopic imagery, forms and colours inspire visually and texturally rich sculptures and prints. She also uses ceramics and printmaking to represent this, utilising a variety of media such as ceramic glazes, papers and inks, which have enabled the exploration of these ideas in a visually interesting way, to further reflect upon the strained human-nature relationship by conveying future and present worlds of anthropocentric destruction.

Brand has exhibited in a variety of locations around the world from shopping centres to galleries.
